Shopify Menu Copier: copy, export and import navigation menus

A Chrome extension that copies Shopify menus with one click and exports and imports them as JSON, right in the admin

The Problem

Menus in Shopify are surprisingly tedious to work with. If you want to move a menu to a new store, or just make a copy of the one you have, the admin makes you rebuild it from scratch.

I have seen a lot of store owners rebuild menus by hand: clicking through page after page, typing in URLs again and putting together submenus that took hours the first time. If you run several stores, or want a backup of your menus, that is a lot of time gone.

So I built Shopify Menu Copier. Now you copy the menu with one click instead of rebuilding it by hand.

What the extension does

  • Copies any menu with a handle suffix of your choice. The whole structure comes along, including submenus and link targets.
  • Exports a menu as JSON, as a backup or to move it to another Shopify store.
  • Imports a JSON file you exported earlier and recreates the menu in any store.
  • Uses the session you already have in the Shopify admin, so you need neither API keys nor an app to install.
  • Looks and feels like the rest of the Shopify admin.
