Shopify API Chrome extension: run GraphQL queries in the browser

The Problem

As a Shopify developer, I’ve lost count of the times I’ve needed to run just a couple of quick queries, to check something, fix something, or whatever. And honestly, it’s always a tedious process.

You’re stuck either installing a custom app just to get a token to query the API (which can take a good 10 minutes with all the scope setup) or installing the GraphiQL app on the store (which also requires app install permissions and scope setup).

So I finally built a GraphQL client that runs in the browser. It uses the admin session you are already logged in with, so none of that setup is needed.

What the extension does

  • Calls the Shopify API for any store you have access to, straight from the browser.
  • Has the full Shopify GraphQL schema as documentation inside the extension.
  • Validates the query against the schema as you type, so you see errors right away.
  • Keeps history and favorites so you can run the same queries again.

See it in Action

Accessing query history and favorites.
Browsing the built-in Shopify GraphQL documentation.
